When I visited New York City a few weeks back this album was in my headphones non-stop. Born and bred in Manhattan, rapper Wiki is a New Yorker to his core and Half God is NYC as fuck, so it was the perfect soundtrack for long walks around Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Produced entirely by Navy Blue, the whole album is a beautifully grimy, introspective affair – part autobiography, part manifesto, a heartfelt opus to the big apple and sharp-tongued warning shot to gentrifiers. Along the way, Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE and Remy Banks pop into Wiki’s world to help round the album out.
As always, the flows and storytelling are on point as ever, while Navy Blue’s soulful, hypnotic production really stretch Wiki’s range and make this an instant classic.
