Occult Fractures

Brilliant mutant disco punk excursions abound on Occult Fractures, the latest album from Chicago band Arthhur. A groove-heavy ride of off-kilter rhythms and snarky lyrics, it’s raucous stuff that shouldn’t be missed.

With danceable slow-building tracks like “Antihistamine Money” and “(Immanentizing the) Eschaton,” comparisons can no doubt be made to post-punk legends like Gang of Four and LCD Soundsystem, high praise indeed. But Arthhur have definitely carved out a niche of their own, flexing a wide range that spans everything from smooth, soulful numbers (“Occult Fractures”) to jangly noise punk (“No Results”).
