Estrela Acesa captures Brazilian musician Sessa’s exploration of love — both its sensuous and spiritual aspects — across a lush and sweeping collection of songs. Taken as a whole, Estrela Acesa is a beautiful album. It’s a music-centered album, an equilibrium between Brazilian rhythm, nylon guitar and soft, symphonic melodies. The music itself is an exercise in restraint – lyrical but sparse sonic arrangements that compliment Sessa’s transfixing vocals, which are delivered with real intimacy. Amid Sessa’s signature acoustic compositions, there are a few nods to the musical tradition of Brazil woven into delicate orchestral arrangements with subtle electronic touches and a vocal performance that evokes a desert mirage.
