If you’re into rap than you probably know this has been one of the more anticipated albums of the year since rumors of its release started swirling around a month ago. At that time, all the collaborators dropped a mysterious graphic on social media alongside the caption “4/30.” It was slowly revealed that rappers Earl Sweatshirt, Navy Blue, Boldy James, Pink Siifu, Maxo and Slideshow, some of rap’s biggest underground heroes, were teaming up with producer The Alchemist, one of underground rap’s hottest producers, for an all star EP titled This Thing Of Ours.
Leading up, the only question seemed to be: could this all star collaboration live up to the hype? The answer is a resounding yes. The EP dropped Friday and it really delivers, an immersive world across four tracks of psychedelic-tinged rap. The pairing of collaborators and producers works perfectly, all grimy flows over sample-heavy beats. Highly recommended listening.
